I'll start with less triggering thoughts.
What should the holidays be about?
I think most of us agree with: Community, Family, Gathering, Love, Giving, & Celebrating Life
what i actually see...
Anxiety. Stress. Buyers Guilt. Glutney. Greed. Lust. Envy. Pride. Poor Boundaries.
~ It's time to take the holidays back to CELEBRATION!
~ Its time to enjoy being alive!
Halloween had been my favorite holiday for most of my life. Now that i have kids of my own i see candy a whole new way. It sucks and i don't want to dismantle trick-or-treating, i love that certain aspects of history have stuck around so long (during Samhain they used to give out cinnamon sweetcakes & dance around bonfires) but i do wish that healthier candies were main stream.
Currently all that candy is just poisoning your kid, lowering their immune system - and lookie there- the following week or so later they're sick with some sort of bug. Thats because the processed white sugar LITERALLY shuts down your immune system for 20 minutes after you eat it leaving your body totally susceptible to any bacterial/viral attackers. Not to mention the food dyes... Should i go there? I'm going to. I have to, 'Cause guess what, it's in the icing of colorful birthday cakes, ice cream and cupcakes and cookies....
Red40 - Naphthalene Sulfonic Acid - Alurra Red AC - FD&C - E129 (all the same thing)
side effects: inattentiveness, hyperactivity (including difficulty sitting still), Irritability, low blood pressure
Blue1 - Petroleum - E132 (yes... it's derived from PETROLEUM!)
side effects: hyperactivity, nausea, breathing problems, digestive upset, headaches, insomnia, rashes, DNA damage, tumors...
(honestly the list goes on but i wont. You get the point.)
Green3 - again, petroleum based....
side effects: skin rashes, hives, itching or swelling of the mouth, respiratory problems, intestinal distress, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anaphylaxis
okay I'll stop. I was going to list them all out as I started typing it up it felt like the wrong approach. I'm not trying to overwhelm; my point here isn't to scare. I've learned a whole bunch of actually HEALTHY ways to color things, giving you nourishment instead of poison. Simple ones like turmeric (for orange) or spirulina (vivid blue & green)
There's plenty of easy, healthy alternatives and the more people break away from the main stream poison, the more healthy brands will become made and accessible.
Thanksgiving is downright gluttonous to me. I love all the food as much as anyone, don't get me wrong. I love spending time with my loved ones and playing games... But to me, if we aren't giving out supplication and thanks to as many as we can, how can we feast? It feels very Hunger Games to me, having so much food (that often goes to waste) when there are starving & homeless people.
Oh, and the 4th of July... The amount of money that goes into fireworks... Can you imagine if that was redirected into something that actually helped our planet? Not to mention that the explosions traumatize ptsd victims & wildlife. I enjoy the explosions too but let's prioritize as a collective here. (Estimated 2.3 BILLION. It's made me weep.)
I was going to get into Christmas but i'm going to stop for now because my back is hurting and I accidently made myself emotional.
Signing off
~ For now ~
