Coming back to the chakras; i made an exciting discovery a few years ago and since then have come across ancient teachings that support this realization (always so exciting! there's nothing we can know that isn't already known, thanks John Lennon.)
Just like the color wheel used in art, the colors of the chakras are supported by their opposite.
We can not fully open our HEART (green) if we are not rooted, feeling SAFE & SECURE (red).
We can not fully open our third eye and experience our PSYCHIC ABILITIES (purple) if we are rejecting our feelings and POWER (yellow).
And, we can not fully speak our TRUTH authentically (blue) if we are not comfortable in our CREATIVITY and sexual energy (orange).
I will certainly go more fully into each of these energy centers individually. (I will have a whole post at some point about the Sacral chakra and how long it took me to embrace that creative energy is deeply related to sexual energy; i imagine i'm not alone in having blocks there, especially anyone whose suffered sexual abuse.)
If you have begun mantra work but are still struggling, it might be because of how you begin the sentence.
"I am-" is the most common phrase but that mostly just activates the root (and the crown, dependent on the words.)
